Getting Involved

There are lots of ways to get involved with WVBU. Pick the track for involvement that best fits your schedule and level of interest.
Once you’ve read about the involvement options WVBU has to offer, just give us your name and email address on the short form below and you’ll be on your way to becoming a part of WVBU!

  1. Supporting Listener
    Time Commitment: None required.
Give us your email address, and we’ll send you our show schedule at the start of each semester. We’ll also send an occasional newsletter to keep you up to date on what’s new at WVBU. We sure don’t like spam either, so we won’t give your email address to anyone else. You’ll get no more than 4 emails from us each semester, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
  2. Show Host
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week, scheduled.
Become a college radio DJ! Schedule a weekly show at a time that works for you. Host by yourself or with a friend. Play any music you’d like or discuss current events. You’ll be heard on FM in over 200 square miles of land surrounding campus, and streaming live around the world at!
  3. Voice Tracker
Time Commitment: 1–2 hours per week, very flexible.
Have you ever heard a DJ on the radio late at night or on a holiday? Chances are, you’ve been exposed to voice tracking. Voice tracking is a radio term for pre-recorded audio. Radio stations no longer need to have a DJ in the studio live all the time – they can prerecord them instead.
At WVBU, we don’t usually have anyone on-air in the mornings and early afternoons. As a WVBU Voice Tracker, you can be our morning and afternoon voice! Come in once a week and spend an hour or two recording the week’s worth of 15-second voice tracks. You’ll introduce songs, mention upcoming events on campus, and promote WVBU programming. Your name and voice will quickly become a staple of our morning and afternoon programming. Our listeners will look forward to hearing you during their commutes and workdays. This is one of the easiest ways to get involved and build relationships with WVBU listeners!
  4. Music Director
Time Commitment: 1–2 hours per week, flexible.
Do you love music? Do you want to have a say in the music that plays on the radio? Imagine listening to WVBU with friends and telling them that YOU picked the songs! Take your passion for a particular genre of music to the next level and join the WVBU Music Direction team. You’ll recommend the best songs in your genre to a small group of your peers and collectively sculpt the musical sound of WVBU. You’ll learn how to add songs to WVBU’s automation catalog so they play automatically, any time of day or night. You’ll also learn how the radio industry schedules when songs play. And you’ll be learning how to do it using industry-standard software – the same stuff the pros use! Become a music expert and join WVBU’s Music Directors. No experience necessary, just a passion for music!
  5. Board Member
Time Commitment: 3 hours per week.
If you love everything about radio and want the most in-depth radio experience possible, apply to join WVBU’s Board of Directors! Learn and practice engineering, production, promotions, and more. You’ll pick a role that interests you and apply. You can even apply to roles you know are filled – we are happy to take on assistant and co- roles. If accepted, you’ll join us weekly for an hour and help make decisions about the direction of WVBU. Then take a couple hours during the week and work on a project related to your position. As a WVBU Board Member, you’ll make tangible improvements to the station and help us take WVBU to the next level!
